There is a great deal to be proud of at Egremont Primary School, and a tangible sense of progress and building confidence. The school was judged to be ‘Good’ in all aspects by Ofsted in October 2014, but we’re not complacent and we know that there is always more to do.
We are now looking for a new Headteacher who can build on success to date and continue the school’s positive trajectory, such that we ensure that we can maintain or improve this judgement at our next inspection.
It’s a role that demands a proven track record and hands-on headship experience of a school which has undertaken a significant improvement journey. You should be able to demonstrate an infectious passion for teaching and learning, plus a wholehearted commitment to raising standards (backed up by the practical know-how to make it happen). The ability to establish positive professional relationships will be at the very heart of this role. It’s essential that you can bring others with you, embedding clear shared expectations of performance, and that you can create a culture where collaboration and challenge drive improvement. After all, a good reputation is the best driver of rising rolls.
The role requires deep understanding of the curriculum, and an appreciation of the importance of monitoring progress. As Headteacher you’ll be a visible presence within and outside the school, connecting with parents and the wider community to promote the school’s achievements and connect community spirit to positive outcomes for pupils. A high proportion of pupils is in receipt of free school meals, and strong candidates will bring a nuanced understanding of how to counter the negative impacts of disadvantage. But we don’t want this to mean that you react only when achievement dips; rather, we believe that the most effective way to support our children is to plan for their steady success over their whole time with us.
It’s extremely important that you can bring a confident and supportive leadership style to this role. You’ll need assured professional credibility backed up by the ability to build positive relationships with staff and with parents. You are likely to already be an experienced headteacher, or can present convincing experience of leading sustained improvement in an acting-up capacity. Whatever your most recent experience, you should be able to articulate a clear picture of what an outstanding school looks like, and the practical steps to get there.
Our vision is that high-perfomers within our Trust are able to aspire to attractive career opportunities; we are open to senior leaders pursuing career pathways such as Executive Headship, a Trust-wide improvement role, working towards becoming an LLE/NLE, or training as an Ofsted inspector.
